Madagascar: Whale Watching in Ifaty

Hundreds if not thousands of humpback whales migrate from the Antarctic waters to the warm waters of the Mozambique Channel (separating Madagascar and Mozambique) to give birth and rear their young. Whale watching here was spectacular – 24 whales sighted, including two tiny baby whales (over a ton each for sure), a group of six whales together, whales spouting fountains, whales diving and displaying their flukes, even whales spyhopping. And finally I got to see breaching whales (sadly didn’t get it well on camera) – an unbelievable sight of a 5+ tonnes massive submarine lifting completely out of the water (like a scene from X-Men First Class).
