Kenya: Hell’s Gate National Park – Devil’s Bedroom Slot Canyon

Devil’s Bedroom is a true slot canyon that is a part of the lower gorge at Hell’s Gate National Park. This is an adventure – you climb ropes, walk narrow ledges, straddle drops, and cross over shaky fallen tree bridges. These are real slot canyons – narrow to just a meter or two (3-6 feet) and many times that in hight. Flash floods have sculpted the sand stone walls just like in Arizona’s famous Antelope canyons. Over the years, there have been multiple incidents of hikers killed by the torrents of flash flood water. There are several “emergency escapes” now but they these are nothing more than a rope that you would need to pull yourself up with. Good luck with that!
