Kenya: Lake Nakuru NP – Game Drives
Lake Nakuru is world famous – it’s one of the premier national parks in Kenya surrounding a Rift Valley alkaline soda lake that used to host hundreds of thousands of flamingos. Alas – it’s not the case anymore. A suspected earthquake in 2010 resulted in water levels rising dramatically in all the lakes of the Rift Valley. The PH level of the water changed, algae no longer flourishes, flamingoes are mostly gone. Even the visitor center was flooded and destroyed. Still the park is beautiful with tons of wildlife – black and white rhinos (next post), massive herds of buffaloes, zebras, impalas, many giraffes (don’t miss the super tiny baby giraffe with his mom), lots of birds, and some awesome panoramic views of the lake itself, especially in the right morning soft light.
