Zambia: Southern carmine beeeater

For starters, beeeater is the only word in the English language to have three consecutive e’s. Aside from that, the southern carmine beeeater is an interesting colorful, almost entirely carmine, bird of the southern African habitat. Their diet consist almost entirely of bees and the hunting process is amazing – they catch bees in flight, then land on a branch or ground, and shake them violently until the bees literally drop the sting! The birds live along the water’s edge in horizontal burrows that are more then 1-2 meter (3-6 feet) deep.
