Zambia: Sitatunga Antelopes
While bats migration was the number one attraction at the Kasanka National Park, having a chance to spot the super rare and elusive sitatunga antelopes was another. Sitatunga is an endangered antelope species that is aquatic and adapted to living in marshes, in fact their feet and legs and fur coats are specifically adapted for living in the swamp. The antelopes only come out for a couple hours at sunrise to graze on the edge of the swamp and then retreat back for the rest of the day. They are very elusive and are rarely seen. Well – with some luck – I got to see them upclose and personal – male, females, and even babies.
