Pakistan: Lahore Fort

Without a doubt, the main tourist attraction in Lahore is the Lahore Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed massive citadel. Inside the thick walls and ramparts there are several large opulent palace buildings, royal squares, fountains, and so on. Some sort of fortification existed here for 2 thousand years, but the present-day complex was built in the 17th century at the heart of Mughal empire. While less known, Lahore Fort easily rivals Tadj Mahal or The Red and Agra Forts in India in magnificence, and all of them belong to the same era of Mughal imperial height. Lahore fort is famous for its “Picture Wall” – a glazed mosaic covered outer wall depicting scenes with elephants and warriors.
