Pakistan: Badshahi Mosque

Badshahi Mosque is one of the most iconic architectural landmark buildings in Lahore and the entire Pakistan if not all of Asia. Built at the height of Mughal empire in 1673, this was the world’s largest mosque and remained as such for the next 313 years. The magnificent building is made from red sandstone and then covered with carved white marble full of intricate Persian-style floral frescos. Grand and atmospheric, it can accommodate 10,000 worshippers. The mosque complex was built by the sixth emperor of the Mughal Empire, who used Lahore as a staging point for further territorial conquest and expansion.
