Costa Rica: Dart Frogs
One of the most sought out animals species in Costa Rica are poison dart-forgs – colorful tiny frogs that are deadly poisonous, They are small and hard to find, but a small center near the Arenal Volcano you can see them in a protected environment. The frogs are only 2.5 cm /1 inch long and weigh under 30 mg, and they are carnivorous, feeding on ants, termites, and other insects. They are brightly colored – reds, blues, greens, and blacks – and this usually serves as a first warning to would-be attackers. The poison causes violent convulsions and often death.
