Costa Rica: Rincon de la Vieja National Park – Volcanic Features
Rincon de la Vieja is the largest and most active volcano in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. Standing at 6,286 ft (1,916 m) high and nine miles (15 km) wide it has at least nine volcanic craters and at least 32 rivers flowing down its sides. The last eruption was here in 2017. Besides going through the tropical dry forest, the Las Pailas trail goes through many volcanic features of an active volcano – steaming fumaroles, mini-geysers, bubbling volcanic mud pits, natural hot springs, and panoramic views of the volcanic slopes.
