Tanzania: Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro – day 5 – Final Ascent

Day 5. This is the final ascent and it’s brutal. You wake up at 2am in the middle of the night and start a relentless climb from the Barafu ridge-top camp at 15331 ft to the Uhuru Peak of Mount Kilimanjaro at 19341 ft. It’s extremely cold, extremely steep, extremely dark, but the adrenaline of the adventure is pushing you up. You arrive at the top just before the sunrise and watch how the light illuminates this bizarre landscape of the mountaintop of the highest mountain in Africa.
