Afghanistan: Aybak – Melon Market

On the road to Mazar-i-Sharif, just outside the small town of Aybak, there is a sprawling market along the highway, dedicated only to melons and open sunrise to midnight. It’s just an insane quantity and variety of melons of different types and tasted. Northern Afghanistan, with mostly Uzbek and Tadjik population,, is famous for its sweet melons. The fertile soils and plenty of sunlight and heat make the area ideal for melon calculation (and it’s mostly melons and cantaloupes and not watermelons). Just an incredible site and we made sure to try many and buy a couple for later, to chill and enjoy.
