Afghanistan: Band-e Amir Lakes – Travertine Waterfalls
The most accessible of the Band-e Amor lakes is the Band-e Haibat, where overflow water descends down the travertine terraces creating spectacular waterfalls. The water is very rich in calcium carbonate, which creates colorful deposits at the base of waterfalls – travertine pools and terraces. The water accumulated in pools and streams and lot is wildflowers (including orchids) thrive in this rare habitat.
