Afghanistan: Ghazni – Tank Graveyard Alley

There is an entire boulevard in the center of Ghazni where there are probably 50-100 old Soviet tanks and personnel carrier, all destroyed, are displayed on pedestals. All of these are from the Soviet-Afghan War (1979–1989). It showcases tanks like T-55s, T-62s, T-85s, BMP-1s, ZSU-23-4 anti-aircraft vehicles, and even one helicopter wreck – many of which are rusted and abandoned, serving as a reminder of Afghanistan’s turbulent history and its resistance against the Soviets. Ghazni was a major strategic focal point of the war, and mujaheddin did a lot of guerrilla warfare here, like ambushes and lightning attacks.
