Afghanistan: Kabul – Flag Hill at Sunset

Straight from the airport we went to the top (literally – it’s high up) attraction in Kabul – the Flag Hill aka Wazir Akbar Khan Hill. Here, in 2022, Taliban raised a large white flag with the Shahada (Islamic declaration of faith) nearly eight months after their return to power in August 2021. The flag measures 40m wide and 26m high, waives high above Kabul. Plenty of locals come here in the evening to watch a spectacular sunset. There is a mosque here and also a pool from old times (no water in it, and any bathing is clearly forbidden now). Taliban security here and there is present to guard the place.
