Afghanistan: Mazar-i-Sharif – Mazar-i-Sharif Bazaar

Mazar-i-Sharif Bazaar is a bustling marketplace in the heart of the city – there is a covered part and open air part and every street around is packed with sellers. While you can probably find anything you want here – from produce to meat to electronics, it’s the textiles and clothing that takes the most space. Specialized clothing and textile stores offer traditional Afghan clothing – perhaps tourban for men (a long tunic shirt and loose pants) and long dress with head scarf for women. In northern Afghanistan these items are particularly beautiful with mostly blue collars and a lot of fine embroidery and beadwork jewelry. And Natali even got some spectacular burqas – vibrant blue with latticework over the eyes for vision.
