Aldabra: Assumption Island – White-Sand Beaches
The Assumption Island lies 27 km southeast of the Aldabra Atoll and covers an area of around 11 sq km. It has limited infrastructure and is known for its beautiful beaches and rich marine life. Assumption Islands boasts truly stunning beach – powdery white sand, clear turquoise waters, and a backdrop of lush vegetation. The sand is perhaps the whitest in the world! Assumption Island’s main beach stretches along much of the island’s western coastline with calm translucent water and a stunning reef within a short swim out. The beaches of Assumption are significant nesting sites for green and hawksbill turtles, and there were quite a few tracks on the sand, perhaps from the night before. There are also a lot of nesting birds in the island, including frigatebirds.
