Aldabra: Cosmoledo Atoll

Next island in the Aldabra Group – Cosmoledo Atoll! Cosmoledo Atoll is a critical habitat for many seabird species, serving as one of the most important seabird nesting sites in the Indian Ocean. The atoll supports large populations of red-footed boobies, lesser and great frigatebirds, and various terns, including the sooty tern and the lesser noddy. Additionally, the masked boobies and brown booby nest here in sandy shores in smaller numbers. The atoll’s remote location and relatively untouched ecosystem make it an ideal refuge for these birds, many of which require undisturbed islands for breeding. The red-footed booby colony on Cosmoledo is second largest in the world. We cruised the island by zodiac, getting up close and personal to many birds.
