Aleutian Islands: Cold Bay
Next settlement along the Alaskan Marine Highway – Cold Bay – even more desolate then Akutan, despite having an airport with a runway suitable for large jets. The runway is not operational any more and was originally built in 1945 when USA transferred planes and trained Soviet pilot here in return for the USSR entering the war against Japan. Cold Bay today has about 100 residents living in simple houses perched on a cliff with a harbor full of fishing bots.
