Algeria: Mansourah
Te ancient city of Mansourah and the ruins of the amazing Great Mosque of Mansourah are a total gem!. Mansourah was founded in the 13th century by the Marinid Sultan Abu Yakub Yusef to serve as a military base during the siege of Tlemcen, which was held by the Zayyanid dynasty. The city was strategically built to support the prolonged siege. The central point is the stunning ruined mosque, featuring a large, partially collapsed minaret that still stands prominently. The minaret is 40 m (131 feet) tall, constructed in a rectangular form, typical of Mahreb. The structure looks almost dazzling at sunset. Besides the ruined mosque, the entire city was fortified with massive walls, parts of which still remain, giving a sense of the city’s former grandeur and strategic importance.
