Algeria: Tassili n’Ajjer NP – Erg Admer Dune Field
Erg Admer spans an impressive area, covering approximately 13,000 sq km (about 5,000 sq mi). This makes it one of the largest dune fields in the Sahara Desert and in the world. The lines of dunes stretches for nearly 90km east to west. The dunes in Erg Admer are known for their height and breadth, creating a mesmerizing landscape of golden sands. Some dunes can reach heights of several hundred meters. Like much of the Sahara, Erg Admer experiences extreme temperatures, with very hot days and cold nights, and minimal rainfall. We climbed the highest dunes along the edge of the field in the north – from the top, it was dunes as far as the eye can see, an absolutely endless field. We were hoping to ride the dune worms, and we pounded the ground here and there, but they never showed up.
