Amazonas: Hiking in the Anavilhanas Nat’l Park
Anavilhanas National Park protects not only the world’s largest inland island archipelago in the Amazon basic but also a big chunk of dry land, pristine rainforest. There is only one short hiking trail near the ranger outpost, leading though massive trees, exotic flora of bizarre fruits and nuts, and an occasional tarantula poking out from a ground hole here and there, stick insects mating, or leafcutter ants working on their load.
