Amazonas: Madada Rock Canyons

This place was beyond incredible and it is completely unknown. It takes a two hour speed boat ride up Rio Negro beyond Novo Airao and then a two hour hike in a stunning never-logged rainforest. Only less than 100 people come to see this per year. What you get to are series of erosion slot canyons below the ground level, massive in scale, dark and moist, full of bats, spiders, and military ants, and absolutely incredible interplay of light. You are below the tree roots, underground, squeezing through narrow passageways and exploring the canyons. It’s as if the slot canyons of American Southwest were transplanted into the Amazon rainforest. Or maybe you are on Pandora…
