Amazonas: Manaus – Floating Village on Amazon
Close to the isthmus where the Amazon meets Rio Negro, there is a whole village where the houses are floating on large platforms made from tree trunks. The water levels fluctuate significantly between wet and dry seasons (15m / 45ft), and people basically move their houses with the water. These are mostly fishermen. The houses are quite large and not some tiny shacks. I guess it’s kind of convenient if you don’t like your neighbor – you can just float away. Somewhat of an Amazon version of a trailer park.
