Amazonas: Manaus – Teatro Amazonas
Theater is most definitely the main attraction in Manaus – one of the grandest and most lavish theaters in the world located in the heart of the sweltering Amazon jungle. The theater was built at the higher of Belle Époque of the rubber baron wealth and took fifteen years to complete. It’s Renaissance style is replete with German steep, Italian white marble, French ceramic tiles, and expensive woods from Brazil itself. The dome, seemingly out of place, was added on the order of the then-governor, and serves no purpose other then to project opulence. Inside, it’s even more impressive with Italian Murano glass chandeliers, pure crystal mirrors, and amazing roof painting as well as the main curtain and the masked sculptures all around.
