Angola: Cruising the Kwanza River
Kwanza river is one of the major rivers in Angola, coming from the mountains in the center of the country and flowing down to the Atlantic Ocean south of Luanda. It also marks the northern border of the Kissama National Park. Cruising on the tranquil river waters upstream and then down the river to the mouth where it empties into the sea is an introduction to the diverse bird life of the region – African fish eagles, palm vultures (that look kind of like fish eagles from afar), kingfishers, and so on – all abundant here. Also interesting were the weaver birds, forming nest clusters high up in the palm trees.
