Angola: Iona NP – Lagoa dos Arcos

Another must-see location in the Namib Desert in Angola is the Lagoa sea Arcos. This is a spectacular natural oasis known as the Oasis of Nabim Desert. This oasis comprises three lagoons nestled within a sandstone canyon along the Curoca River. The central lagoon is particularly renowned for its natural arches – formed by centuries of wind and water erosion – that lend the site its name. These arches, carved into the sandstone cliffs, are quite massive and yet fragile-looking. This is one of the few oases in the desert, and it’s quite green and lush, with many trees, birds, and animals. We again spotted the adorable rock hyrax while hiking thought the sandstone cliffs and green flat areas in the middle.
