Angola: Iona NP – Pink Sand Dunes

The vast coastal sand dunes in Iona National Park have distinct pink hue in many places, especially at sunset. This is mostly due to presence of iron oxide that coats quartz sand particles. In some places iron is more concentrated and the dunes are almost orange. Surreal landscape everywhere you look, as if you are on a set of some movie, perhaps Dune.
