Angola: Kissama NP – Game Drives
Angola and its national parks were all but destroyed during the Angolan civil war. All park lands were abandoned, some left with mines, and animals killed. After the war was over, a private wildlife foundation with the support of the Angolan government launched an ambition project to re-populate the park with wildlife. Noah’s Arc became the biggest wildlife refaunation project in the world – dozens and dozens of elephants, giraffes, wildebeest, kudu, bushbucks, and other antelopes were airlifted from Botswana and Namibia and brought to Kissama. Later, some rare animals were brought it as well – like bontebok antelopes. Given the favorable environment, the populations reproduced rapidly and nowadays game drives in the park rival those in more well-known safari destinations. There are still no predators here so the herbivore animals are absolutely not skittish or afraid of anything and let you approach them very close.
