Angola: Lagoas Naturais Tidepools
Underneath the towering cliffs there are stunning black lava tire pools surrounded by vertical walls of columnar basalt (which is actually almost as spectacular as the world-famous Giant’s Causeway in Ireland. (Columnar basalt forms when thick lava flows cool slowly, typically in stable environments like lava lakes or thick flows. As the lava cools, it contracts, creating vertical cracks that form polygonal columns, most commonly hexagonal due to the physics of cooling). The tidal pools are vast and filled with crystal clear sea water that waves bring in at high tides. And there are panoramic vista galore from many spots around the pools.
