Angola: National Museum of Slavery
On the coast south of Luanda, stands a museum dedicated to the dark history of slavery in Angola. It’s a small museum centered around the building of the Capela de Casa Grande, where slaves were baptized before being put on the boats heading primarily for Brazil. According to the museum sources, more then half of all the slaves from Africa came via the three major departure points in Angola – Luanda, Benguela, and Cabinda – over 5 million people! The museum has many documents and items depicting and describing the slave trade, including shackles, chains, guns, and whips.
