Angola: Tundavala Gap
This is one of the most spectacular and photographed natural attractions in the entire country – the Tundavala Gap aka Fenda da Tundavala – is a true natural wonder: a sheer escarpment that marks the edge of the Serra da Leba plateau drops here very dramatically about 1,000 m (3,280 ft) to the plains below. And there is a gap or a window between two cliffs offering a view toward the coast and the lowlands – an epic panoramic view of the vast landscape stretching toward the Atlantic Ocean—on clear days, you can even catch a distant glimpse of the coastline, nearly 150km away. Standing at the edge, you get a totally jaw-dropping vertical drop and expansive panorama below – rugged valleys, flat savannas, and patches of forest, all softened by mist and distance. Around the rim, the highlands are covered in cool-climate vegetation with succulents and windswept trees clinging to the rocks and the air is cool and crisp and misty. Don’t come here if you are afraid of heights.
