Antarctica: Flying to Antarctica & Landing on Union Glacier
Flying to Antarctica from Punta Arenas is one of the world’s greatest adventures on its own – you are on a massive Russian cargo IL-76 plane above the territory completely missing any radar installations. The flight can only happen when the weather over the landing site is absolutely clear, and quite often the plane has to turn around midway. The landing happen on the Union Glacier on real ice – the humongous plane drops from the sky and onto the shiny blue glacial surface.
