Argentina: Los Glaciares NP – Perito Moreno Glacier
The Perito Moreno Glacier is truly a wonder of the world and is one of the biggest tourist attraction in the entire country of Argentina. The sheer size and scale of the ice river is immense – 250 sq km (97 sq mi) by area and 30 km (19 mi) in length. The mouth of the glacier is 5 km (3 mi) wide and 75 m (240 ft) high above the waters of the Lago Argentino. Perito Moreno has a total ice depth of 170 m (558 ft). It’s a breathtaking site to hike on land opposite the terminus and watch and listen as the glacier cracks and calves. Interestingly, it is an advancing glacier, one of the few in Patagonia to do so.
