Armenia: Talin Cathedral
Armenia holds many ancient churches and cathedral – this area and the city of Van (now in Turkey) used to be the capital of the ancient Armenian Kingdom. The Talin Cathedral dates back to the 7th century, making it one of the early examples of Armenian ecclesiastical architecture. It was built during the height of the Armenian Kingdom, under the patronage of Prince Nerseh Kamsarakan. The cathedral is semi-ruined, missing the dome and half of the outer wall. Surrounding the cathedral is an ancient cemetery, with many stones bearing engravings and ancient texts.
