Armenia: Yerevan – Around the City
Armenia is proud of being the first nation to formally adopt Christianity in early 4th century. The capital is named “Yerevan” and translates to “lovers’ town” from Armenian. The history of Yerevan dates back to the 8th century BC which makes it one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. We stayed at a small boutique hotel in the heart of Yerevan. When you walk out – you immediately dive in the local culture. Restaurants left and right, saliva-inducing smell of shashlyk and people hanging out any time of the day. Taking a long walk around the city center through the Republic Square we entered the flea market with the beautiful name „Vernissage“. The market is full of artists: from wooden masters to painters. If you are a fan of rare stuff – you‘ll find it here : old coins, stamps, books, etc. Being marked a grand Soviet-era architecture capital, Yerevan is the place to slow down and enjoy the city. The iconic landmark of Yerevan is the Cascade Complex, which is definitely the most beautiful in spring when the city is in bloom. Yerevan is also a city of theaters, with numerous playhouses offering a diverse range of performances.
