Ascension: Long Beach
Landing on Ascension Island, the first attraction beyond the harbor (which is small and often very difficult to land given the severe swell and complete exposure) is the Long Beach. The beach is just under a one km long and is the most important nesting beach for green turtles on Ascension Island. There were hundreds of turtle tracks visible all over the beach. The entire beach is a protected reserve and swimming here is not recommended given the currents and shark attacks (multiple incidents in the last few years).
