Auckland Islands: Hardwick Cove
Auckland Islands are uninhabited subantarctic islands, but this has not always been the case. In the 19th centuries, there was a small settlement here and several ships crashed nearby with the survivors making it out to the Auckland. At the Hardwick Cove, there are several graves and artifacts, dating back to mid 1800s, especially a log with carved out dates on it. But equally spectacular was the flora – red-blossoming rata trees, mosses, unique endemic wildflowers – it was all otherworldly, like I was on Avatar!
