Australia: Coober Pedy

Coober Pedy is in the middle of nowhere and almost entirely built underground. People live in caves and tunnels (too hot in summer and too cold in winter). The town is a mining Mecca for opal and almost all the ground around is dug up in search of it. Also famous for fiery sunsets.
