Austria: Linz
Linz was somewhat underimpressive (maybe I am getting fatigued by pretty German/Austrian towns). It has many wide open squares lined up with baroque buildings and churches (and a tram running through it), but for some reason almost all of them were under restoration of some kind and partially covered up (they should just announce that Linz is not worth visiting while this work is going on). Old Town Hall (Altes Rathaus) and a little further the old Alter Dom Cathedral together with the grand wide open Hauptplatz square were the main attractions. Other then that, the entire old town also seemed like a never ending shopping mall (although in fairness local Jack Wolfskin clothing store had a massive sale so I loaded up on ultra-fluorescent yellow sports gear top to bottom – stay tuned).
