Azerbaijan: Mud Volcanoes of Qobustan
Mud volcanoes is a unique natural phenomenon where gas and mud bubble their way from underground in a show of mountains of mini-volcanoes sputtering grey viscous material. There are about 600 mud volcanoes on earth and over 300 of them are located in Azerbaijan, a country rich in gas and oil reserves that lie very close to the ground. Located approximately an hour ride south of Baku. They erupt gas and cold mud. Tons of mud! Constantly bubbling, gurgling, belching, and spitting. One exploded while i was next to it, covering me with mud. This field of over 40 is about 40km south of Baku.
