Azores: Pico Island – Landscapes of the Vineyard Culture
This is actually a UNESCO World Heritage site, the only one in Azores. Wine has been produced in Azores since 15th century, in a way like nowhere else on earth. “The vineyard is divided into plots (currais) protected by walls (paredes, murinhos). The walls are built with basalt blocks that have been weathered and broken up and stacked without mortar.” (Wiki). It’s an incredible sight of black lava and green grapevines to horizon. And I also drank green (virgin) wine freshly pressed.
