Baffin Island: Floe Edge – Landscapes of Eclipse Sound

To get to the Floe Edge (ice edge) from the camp requires 15-20 min snowmobiling in the frozen water of the Eclipse Sound that separates Bylot Islands from the Baffin Island in the south. Both islands are uninhabited around here, with Pond Inlet (closest settlement) being around 70km away into the sound. Both Bylot and Baffin boast mountains with glacier ice rivers descending into the Eclipse Sound, creating insane landscape panoramas, especially in the evening when the light is perfect. The journeys to the ice edge are not without fun either, as you have to navigate the open ice cracks and occasionally fall into them and even go for an unintended and undesirable swim.
