Baffin Island: Inuit Country Food
While the food on the ship was abundant and well-prepared, the true adventure was sampling some of the Inuit food local delicacies, mostly raw arctic animal meat (it’s called “country food”). I got to try raw beluga blubber aka Maktak, raw caribou meat, raw Arctic char. And before everyone starts slamming the idea of hunting these animals – one has to respect cultural traditions of people living on these lands for millennia, none of this hunting is commercial, and the takeout is limited and controlled. Besides, it’s not like westerners are gonna embrace chewing beluga blubber since it tastes sort of like tire rubber soaked in fish oil – acquired taste but I liked it!
