Bahamas/Grand Bahama: High Rock
The category 5 Hurricane Mathew barely missed Florida in 2016, but it did have a direct hit on the Grand Banama island in the northern Bahamas. The southeastern coast got raked and the extreme northwestern tip got absolutely demolished. One of the towns that got really hit was High Rock, a beautiful little settlement far away from civilization, about an hour drive east from the capital of Freeport. There are few houses here, many still broken. Of the two beachfront restaurant, one was totally wrecked. But there is a stunningly beautiful coastline and a totally awesome lighthouse (albeit non functional).
