Bahrain: Tree of Life
Tree of Life is a single 400-year old tree located out in the inhospitable desert of Bahrain with miles of sand, dust, and rocks around it. A member of Pea family, this tree is native to the deserts of the Arabian Peninsula and can survive in the most extreme conditions. This particular tree is one of the main tourist attractions in the country. It grows on a small mound which is actually an unexcavated 500-year old ancient fortress. For some bizarre reason, it’s a popular attraction, albeit its neither picturesque nor interesting and there isn’t even a paved road to it.
