Bangladesh: Pakutia Zamindar Bari Palace
Here’s another abandoned and decaying colonial palace that once projected immense wealth and splendor – Pakutia Zamindar Bari Palace. The Zamindari was established in the early 19th century by Ramkrishna Shaha Mondol, a wealthy landowner who purchased the estate from the British. Later on, his three grandsons built three palatial houses for themselves – and that’s what’s standing today. The buildings feature elaborate ornamentation, stylish columns, and intricate sculptures – impressive despite their age and dilapidated condition. You feel slightly like Lora the Tombraider exploring the buildings, moldy, overgrown, and at a serious risk of collapse.
