Belgium: Brussels – La Grand-Place
Grand Place is the main square in Brussels, the heart of the city. Many Gildehuizen or gilded houses front the square on all sides – all ornately decorated with carved stonework, gables, pilasters, balustrades, statutes, and plenty of gilded elements as well – most dating to the 17th century. The central and most prominent building is Hotel de Ville (Town Hall). In the evening the square is a fantastic place to sit and enjoy the light illuminating the buildings.
