Belgium: Tournai
And one more spectacular Belgian city – Tournai – one of the oldest in the country. Tournai is famous for its massive UNESCO-World Heritage Cathedral of Notre Dame de Tournai. The massive gothic structure dates to 1140. And was then enlarged and built out over centuries – its towers reach to 83 m (272 ft) into the sky, and there are a total of 5 towers! Just totally stupendous! The dark interior of soaring nave and stained-glass windows is equally impressive. Tournai actually has not one but two UNESCO sites, the other being the solo standing Belfry of Tournai, the oldest in Belgium. And finally right next to it is the traditional Belgian Grand Place with classic Belgian merchant houses and more churches.
