Benin: Possotome – Voodoo Culture
Possotome is a small fishing village on the shore of Lake Aheme. And all the residents here follow the traditional beliefs and voodoo culture. As you walk around the village – almost every household has their own voodoo shrine with a voodoo sculpture and a platform for sacrifices. As the local guide fervently explains, you can ask voodoo anything – money, rain, fish, cure, happiness – you just need to sacrifice a chicken or a goat every time you talk to your voodoo. Some shrines have elaborate painting and structures and are strictly off limit to strangers. Also, voodoo believers don’t wear shoes.
