Bolivia: Cal Orck’o Dinosaur Footprints
Cal Orck’o the largest collections of dinosaur footprints in the world and is a truly remarkable geological wonder. The tracks are preserved on a massive, nearly vertical limestone wall that is up to 100n (328 ft) high and over 1.5km (0.9 mi) long. This wall was originally a flat lake shore, but tectonic activity related to the formation of the Andes tilted the entire slab upright. The site contains over 12,000 individual tracks across 465 distinct trackways, dating back around 68 million years to the Late Cretaceous period. The prints belong to at least eight different dinosaur species, from carnivorous theropods aka T-Rex to massive herbivorous sauropods and giant long-necked titanosaurs. You can see the giant wall from many observation points and also there are models of all the dinosaurs found here – in full scale! This totally should be a UNESCO site – it’s mindboggling!
